Match.com to start anonymous voice chat

It’s late, but it’s here. Match.com, one the biggest online dating service, is about to launch MatchTalk, a real voice telephone service for users to meet each other. Anonymously.

Many social networks have already integrated an IP telephone system. It’s the case of the British rising star Bebo or the Canadian Verdate. Both have enhanced users’ toolbox with some Skype functionalities.

But Match.com goes deeper into anonymity protection. Jangl, that we previously covered, has been contracted to provide an anonymous phone number to those willing to talk. Those numbers are easier to manage than filtering calls. They are suitable for any phone calls (landline, cellphone and VoIP) and if some problems rise, users could throw them away and ask for a new one.

Having a real conversation, even if it’s on the phone, shows better results than emailing and IMing. Some couples, formed through Skype conversation, said it was easier to find the right person, as you can hear the laughter or the way the other talks.

UPDATE, November 3rd, 2006 — Tim Johnson, from Jangl, told us the new service would be available for the US only.
