Backed by Zennstrom, Jott opened its doors

Voice-to-text service Jott reached the public beta state. We previously talked about the company that raised $1 million from several investors, including Draper Richards and Skype’s cofounder Niklas Zennstrom investment company.
The system is pretty straightforward. Once registered, members dial the Jott’s phone number (1-877-568-8486), leave a voice message if they want it to be forwarded other phone numbers or drop a voice message to get transcribed and sent back to their email box.
Although this sounds like another speech-to-text services, SpinVox or GotVoice for instance, it in fact doesn’t rely on a voice-recognition technology. Instead, voice messages are routed to India for transcription, according to VentureBeat. Hopefully, for casual, regular “Call Mr.X at lunch time” messages, the transcription quality will remain all right.
