Europe telecoms companies battling for the iPhone

The Apple iPhone earthquake impacts in Europe too. The race to get the exclusive rights of the new communication tool has started. Telefonica, the Spain telecoms company, said it is in talks with Apple to get the exclusive rights for the iPhone in Europe and the UK.

Hutchinson-Three is out of the game because the iPhone doesn’t support 3G. The cellphone operator would have made a nice operation as it banks on the rise of VoIP flat rate calling. Getting the exclusive rights for commercializing the iPhone extended by the Skype VoIP client, like it did with its X-series offer, would be a hit.

Anyway, the competition has started, but European consumers would have the time to see its results; the iPhone ‘EU’ isn’t expected before 2008.
