Will Intel power the next mobile phones?

Intel plans to enter the mobile phone market. Soon, a badge à la “Intel inside” will cover a corner of mobile phones.
According to the daily Business Standard, the badge is expected to help Intel make a significant dent in the mobile chips’ market. The company pays equipment makers to put the badge in there — and cellphone makers would not mind making extra marketing dollars.
In fact, the chipmaker has been trying for 6 years to become a player in mobile phones. With a mere success as Microsoft experienced for its Smartphones and Windows CE.
But since then, Intel has been said to be in talks with the major mobile phone makers (Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Siemens and Sony Ericsson) to incorporate its chips into their devices. Especially the last Intel chip dedicated to mobile devices, codenamed Monahans and running at over 1GHz.
Intel will first campaign in Asia, a region where reports unanimously forecast a steady appetite for mobile phones.
