Various venture capitals including Intel Capital and IDG have invested in Incesoft, a Chinese company that develops instant messenger bots. The amount would be something around $5 million but the rumor remained unconfirmed.

Incesoft is the official partner of Windows Live Messenger in China and the big QQ. It provides Xiaoi robots, which is an automated intelligent avatar but works like any other IM contact. Users add the Xiaoi bot into their contact list, ask for weather, tv guide, map and sports news as they’d chat to a human being. Xiaoi provides an interesting Q&A service, which is comparable to a Yahoo Answer-like community on IM.
