In 2006, one of four companies will use VoWLAN

The exact number is 27%, not 26 not 28% exactly 27%! The estimation comes right from Infonetics Research, a marketing research and consulting company specialized on networking. Another research paper gives a glimpse on what they expect to happen for this year.
  • WiFi phones will bump up to 158% in 2006.
  • Roughly 2/3 of WiFi use the single mode WiFi VoIP handsets. But dual-mode phone should take the lead by 2009.
  • Above 50% of dual-mode users are located in the Asian Pacific area. Europe and North America are lagging ― as usual.
  • Real-time applications such as voice and video over wireless LANs should keep growing. But everyone has already noticed this.
It seems that all Telco and phone service providers want a piece of the cake. So watch out for the battle of who is going to propose the cheapest prices.
