IM to overtake SMS in the next five years

The mobile carrier have to embrace IM. They “will gradually take over from SMS in the next five years in Europe”, said John Delaney, from advisory agency Ovum, to ZDNet Asia (via textually). Other analysts also pinpointed the shift of technologies and social practice for IM.
We already know that Helio and other mobile virtual network operators are using the IM leverage to gain market shares. Traditional mobile operators could still resist, though. According to James Enck, an analyst with Daiwa Securities, interoperability is one of the key factor.
And two days ago, Nokia is going in this direction, releasing its S60 platform under an open source license.
