Eyeballing the 2006 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is a real pleasure. And a very inspiring moment, especially when you are in a “Tell me what the near future will look like” mood, or in a “Oh we have to spare some money for this design sensation” mood.

Here’s a list of products, much shorter than the big list of 108 awarded submission published by Business Week, but that are related or so to the future of communication.

Crinia. A voice conference system that looks like a giant rook, in which you plug your cordless handset. Sounds are projected horizontally for a full 360 degrees of coverage. To be launched in 2007.

Talking Tactile Tablet (TTT). “The Talking Tactile Tablet system allows visually impaired individuals to access graphic imagery they otherwise would not be able to enjoy. Instead of using Braille, which the majority of visually impaired people do not read, users hear audio descriptions of each component of an image.”

L’Amour collection. By Nokia. “The most innovative aspect of the collection was how the design team analyzed upcoming design trends. Designers anticipated the upcoming importance of authenticity and crafted materials, which led them to inspiration sources such as natural materials (amber, ceramic, turquoise and silk), craft techniques (enameling and etching) and multi ethnical decorations and patterns.”

Touch Messenger. A slick and stylish screen and keyboard Braille text messaging for the blind.

Which one is your favorite?
