It was announced at the last 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain and now it’s effective. 3 Italia, the Hong-Kong-based Hutchison Global Communications unit in Italy, has begun to provide VoIP service in the peninsula. As part of the deal goes between Hutchinson and Skype, 3 Italia customers will use Skype to make VoIP phone calls.

The new service, called “International No Limit” will enable users to make calls for 0.5 euro an hour, up to a maximum of 10 hours a day per month, 3 Italia said in a statement. Its prize? 15 euros.

Italian are the most fond of cell phone service in Europe. Although 3 Italia users will need to buy a 3G-enable cell phone, they could be driven by the tempting small prize offer. If the VoIP service turns to be a success, it will be expanded to all other European countries the Hutchinson sister company currently serves, the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
