Houndbite: Not the YouTube of audio, but the audio JPG magazine

Houndbite begins an user-made podcast service. Anyone can submit soundbites, amusing or interesting, visitors vote for their favorites and winning clips are packaged up into a weekly podcast called Houndcast and rewarded by some ‘Cafe Press’ like stuff.

As Mashable’s Pete Cashmore noted it, the service looks more like a noise patchwork than a “YouTube of Audio”. But the business model is interesting. In fact, Houndbite could mature into the “audio JPG magazine”. The magazine, relaunched some months ago by Derek Powazek and Heather Powazek Champ (now at Flickr), invites users to send their pictures, vote for their favorites and the chosen ones end up in a printed monthly magazine edition sold on Lulu.com. And as you can see, the results are fabulous.
