Evolution Data Optimized or EV-DO is going to rule in North America. The technology has been described as a 3G booster and versatile technology that can set an Internet access point in a snap. Sweet, but let’s talk about required device to make it become more real.
A 4 port D-Link router, the Kyocera KR1 mobile router has slots for EV-DO cards and a USB port EV-DO phones. Once wireless access is on, you can bridge the wireless and a local network through Ethernet.
The Laughing Squid tried it. Conclusion? “I had the router configured as an access point with a working wireless network in about 5 minutes. I was also able to setup WPA encryption, with no problems connecting to the network using both Mac and Windows.”
