IM roundup: Google Talk ‘Speex-ed’; iSkoot for dual-mode cellphones

  • Google Talk now supports Speex. The open source speech codec has been developed by the Xiph organization best-known for the Ogg Vorbis audio compression format. We talked about Speex the last week, the codec is getting quite close to its 1.2 final release.

  • iSkootDuo. iSkoot extended its client software to WiFi/GSM mobile phones. So now, you won’t even need to pay a lot for 3G/GPRS data consumption, just enter a hotspot zone. As a reminder, iSkoot could be considered as the big rival of EQO, the company that allows cellphone users to start Skype calls from their mobile device.
