The San Francisco citywide WiFi network, delayed again

Those words don’t sound good. “I wouldn’t say we are black and blue (from the talks), but this is a big, complicated deal,” San Francisco telecommunications chief Chris Vein told the San Fransisco Chronicle about the stalled negotiations between the city council and Google/Earthlink for the citywide WiFi network.

A month ago, the SF Examiner reported on the tension lying inside city council about the ownership of the network. Members of the city’s Board of Supervisors might vote to make the network city-owned, while the mayor’s office plan to give the control to EarthLink/Google pair. Add to the slow speed for a presume high-speed broadband connection, and the lack of technical support, there are like some snow storm coming over San Fransisco.
