Fon starts its $5 WiFi router

The WiFi access provider Fon launches its “social router” today. We don’t know if “social” means for the poor, but “La Fonera” as the Spain-based company dumbs its WiFi router will cost… $5! (or €5!). And apparently, it’s not a promotional offer.

La Fonera brings up two wireless network signals. A private one which is encrypted and is intended for members’ domestic network usage. And a public one, that they could monetize the access or keep free. The public signal will be accessible to Foneros only. This signal is the one that turns members’ broadband connection into a Fon WiFi hotspot.

Time to get a WiFi phone.
