FireOlive: Comment the press with your voice

With the rise of self publishing, the Internet becomes more talkative. Podcasting, whose the social practice grows at a steady place, is more and more integrated into web application. And here’s come another beta service, FireOlive, that combines news commenting like Newsvine.com and basic podcasting.

FireOlive users call a phone number (US only) or reach the FireOlive’s Skype number to leave their comments on a specific piece of news. Garnered comments look like a forum or a voice teleconference report.

In essence, it’s a cool idea. Good speakers aren’t always good writers; email and text comments lacks the warmness of the voice; voice are much more human.

But the only problem is that newsreaders are so used to scanning stories and posts that they might not take the time to hear more than 20 seconds of the first speech comment.

So to us, unless FireOlive provides a text-to-voice service that podcast listeners can use to bring full discussions on their MP3 players, the voice commenting service would remain a cool toy for bloggers.
