Electricity, as radio signals, to power cellphones

Charles Darwin would call it evolution of the phone species. First, a Bakelite corded phone. Replace the cord with radio signals, you’ve got the second stage of phone evolution. During the process, engineers have added a battery, that by the time, we learned to be responsible for the phone price and size, yet not very ecofriendly.

The third stage should be more unobstructive technology. Voice, data ‘and’ energy supplying landline handsets and cellphones by radio signals. And guess what, the future is here. Firefly Power Technologies claims to do.

The company is a spin-off from the University of Pittsburgh. And their Wireless Power Platform could transmit power through the air to mobile device and also enable “on-grid” devices to go “off-grid.”

Although we haven’t seen any demonstration of the technology, we’re thrilled to be able one day to take away the heavy battery of our laptop and mobile phone.
