eBay-Skype: Smells like a bad marriage

Skype buzz is doing good, but internally, head chefs are leaving. About 50% of 40 original managers are sailing away, said Om Malik to the International Herald Tribune.

For some observers, like Phil Wolff, form Skype Journal, the Skype’s executive turnover had been “normal for this type of transaction, where many executives took the opportunity to cash out their options.” This happens many times. In a recent major buyout, Google buying YouTube for $1.65 billion, some executives left the boat too.

But for others, “Skype is in danger of becoming the Netscape of voice over Internet protocol phone companies.” By saying this, Martin Geddes pinpoints the culture clash between Skype and eBay, its lack of vision, and its innovation management. Could Skype follow the path of AIM, which went open source to better handle the IM competition?
