Free or not, citywide WiFi network owners start using their access points as a commercial argument to sell VoIP phones and soon we guess, VoIP telephones accessories.
The city of Taipei, in Taiwan, will start distributing WiFi phones to bring 200,000 new users to adopt its wireless network. Cross the Pacific. West coast, USA, according to GigaOM, Earthlink will start selling WiFi handsets in the fourth quarter of this year.
“The phones will work over Earthlink’s WiFi networks, and will have a voice plan somewhere between $10 to $25. Users have to pay extra for a data plan.”
