DIY clubs shift their focus to cellphones

Wired has reported on Homebrew Mobile Phone Clubs. Those DIY cellphone groups are emerging in the Silicon Valley (the magazine reported on it in a previous article) and members are hacking handsets to broaden the range of functionalities and services.

Until now, those clubs pop up as a reminiscence of the past, of the computer club, at the time where nobody really knew computers could be so precious to our societies. But the trend is getting bigger, as cellphones become open source. Like LinuxDevices demonstrated it for the Trolltech’s Greenphone, hacking them seems not that complicated.
