This is the usual conference call drawback: It’s not your turn to talk, you’re not interested in participating on the topic, you want to nap a minute or go get a coffee, well, you put yourself on mute and no one will note it. Video conferencing doesn’t allow this, but it’s more expensive to set.

But you might forget this cliché a lot sooner than expected. Cisco comes with a new conferencing system: the TelePresence. The series contains two models, the TelePresence 1000 and 3000, both provides high-definition video and lower-cost, $79,000 and $300,000 — not safe for small and medium-size companies.

Cisco will face a starting but strong competition. Microsoft, which focuses on its RoundTable server as part of its Unified Communications, and HP, which its Halo video conferencing system.
