Mobile phone and webcam for the disabled

This follow up our previous post. Here are two interesting devices to enhance mobile phone and video calling user experience.
Emporia used to manufacture dedicated mobile phone models for the elder. Not lilliputian font characters, large buttons, bigger display, loud volume. The Austria-based company is currently developing mobile phones for the blind. More precisely, it’s a mobile phone (left on the picture) without no screen but with a text-to-speech feature. The device shout out loud incoming text messages, the number of the caller, and pressed buttons on the dial pad.
USB Qcam is a webcam enhanced with improved nightvision capabilities. It’s not exactly intended for low-vision people, but could be used to improve their seeing if the video call software couldn’t do it. The device is working with Skype and other softphones. (via the red ferret)
