Cellphones, too sophisticated, can’t use it

Doesn’t count if they’re top-notch and could support GSM and VoIP. Doesn’t matter if they bring you extra features and double their capacities every year. A growing population of cellphone users just find their mobile device too damn complicated to handle.
“It’s not fun to download a ringtone and have to figure out how to get that on your phone,” said Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Ramey to AP for Wired News. “We do not shy away from testing. If the device or service doesn’t work, it’s a reflection on our network.”
But other cellphone vendors don’t push that hard. According to Robert Moritz, director of device development for Sprint Nextel, “its lab typically tests devices and programs with up to 50 users over three to nine months.”
Sure, they should learn from the Apple iPod comeback. Great design spars interest, and increase consumer loyalty. And following the Wired News article, besides its MP3 and VoIP features, chances are good that Apple with its simple interface principles could put current mobile phone carriers on threat.
By the way, would you buy an Apple iPhone?
