Boeing out, IP telephony up. Up in the air. That’s the major trend the last Airline IT Trends survey insisted on. The closure of Boeing Connexion by the end of this year hasn’t freaked the industry to move on. By 2008, 59% of airlines should offer Internet access in flight.

Other figures show that over 80% of airline locations now have IP connectivity, and up to 93% within two years. Almost 80% of airline systems are also IP-enabled and expected to bump to 87% by the end of 2008.

In this race, we already know some names. The low-cost carrier RyanAir, or more traditional ones like Air France (which is switching the ‘No smoking’ signal for the ‘No mobile’ one) and BMI.
