BSkyB summer promotion: Free broadband access

BSkyB fuels the idea that this summer is going to be a very hot shakeup for broadband access in Europe. Why? Because the Rupert Murdoch’s pay-TV group is expected to roll out free broadband access for a small group of selected customers.
“Such a move would attract new users, while encouraging existing customers to pay more for top-tier service plans,” according to Teleclick.
But such a move is more an answer to the Carphone almost free broadband offer. And has also more to do with the AOL UK takeover. Orange, Deutsche Telekom, and British Telecom are among the possible buyers, and are launching their triple-play offers.
BSkyB doesn’t have much choice. Subscribe new members or loose. “If Sky does not get into broadband, the firms muscling their way in will slice up its pay-TV franchise,” says The Telegraph.
