DIY: Boosting the quality of service of your IP calls

Less is more. Definitively worth more if you can boost your regular tuck-tuck router into a powerful, highly configurable Ferrari router. As many other case of DIY recipe, the very appropriate candidate for this operation again is the Linksys WRT54GL that even McGyver would back and that Foneros (members of the Fon wireless network) know too well.
Here’s what you end up with if you follow the LifeHacker’s tips:
- Increase the power of the wireless signal by 7 or even 10, meaning you can roam within a wider wireless range;
- Give priority to your IP traffic, useful for VoIP calls or even put yours calls on top of other users.
That’s probably one of the coolest things if you want to show off your capacities to take advantage of broadband telephony. Next lesson: learn how to deal.
