$20 billion wasted in VoIP telephone equipment until 2010

Companies are going to waste $20 billion on their VoIP telephone system, a recent Gartner study pinpoints. Bob Hafner, who led the research, said to Computing magazine:

Ironically, in most businesses, the IP screen phone is placed on the desk beside a PC that has a much bigger and higher-resolution screen.
A better idea might be to buy low-end IP phones without a screen and use PCs with unified communications (UC) applications.

Juniper Research has previously forecast the drop of revenues from VoIP hardware after 2007. The consultancy anticipated the rise of South-East Asian equipment, which as usual would be a lot more affordable.
