Klaus Hommels could now tell he’s the guy entrepreneurs want to meet. Because he’s got the flair for successful ventures. And as a crown of his profile, he has grabbed the title of “Most Successful European entrepreneurial private investor of the year.”
Explained Bruno Giussani: “‘Entrepreneurial private investors’, most commonly known as ‘business angels’, are generally entrepreneurs who have become wealthy and invest their own money ― typically sums under 2 million euros per investment ― in young growth companies.”
And guess what. Skype is part of the Giussani’s company portfolio. Skype, the voice over IP pioneer, which announced over 100 million registered users and now handles 7% of all international long-distance telephone minutes, according to MarketWatch.
Giussani also manages the OpenBC’s and Stardoll’s case. Red Herring picked OpenBC in its 100 Europe’s most promising private companies. And Stardoll, the Scandinavian girls’ site, has recently grabbed $6 million venture capitals to grow in America, reported Forbes.
Bonus: How to recognize a good business angel? Someone who “is ideally someone who invests in a startup but also plays a role as a sparring partner to the entrepreneurs, telling them flatly what (s)he thinks”, says Florian Schweitzer, a partner with BrainsToVentures, which attributed the prize.
