Avaya, the spin-off of Lucent Technologies specialized in IP telephony infrastructure, did some shopping. It acquires Ubiquity Software, a developer of software applications using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) technology. The deal, worth $144 million (€54 million) in cash, will help Avaya provide support to network operators and enterprises migrating to all-IP (Internet Protocol) networks, the company said.

Ubiquity missed analysts sales forecasts twice in two years and is on track for flattish sales of about $16 million U.S. and reduced but substantial losses of about $12 million for 2006. Avaya will report its Q1 2007 results results on January 23, 2007.
