WiFi for all car passengers

As WiFi spreads everywhere, calling from a WiFi phone becomes a lot easier. On the Thames, on airplanes, we have it. Check what’s coming: WiFi in cars. The In-Car-Router, to be showcased by AutoNet at the upcoming CES 2007 exhibition, would turn any car into a moving hotspot that enables drivers and passengers to take their Internet connection with them wherever they go.

The Autonet mobile unit provides the seamless Internet connectivity through its proprietary TRU technology. The service features a self-adapting session management between high/low speed networks.

Although it’s highly expensive — about $400 for the hardware plus $50 for monthly subscription –, such a broadband mobile router might interest bus companies, as well as announcing the possible death of Sirius or XM satellite radio services.
