AT&T debuts satellite broadband access

AT&T debuts satellite broadband Internet access. We already covered thisĀ  a couple of weeks ago but the service is now officially started.

Through a partnership with WildBlue, it blankets rural and remote areas across the company’s traditional 13-state local residential service area. That potentially gives 11.5 million additional homes and businesses. Plans start at $50 for a broadband 1.5 Mbps downlink and 256Kbps uplink.

AT&T is also preparing to beef up its Project Lightspeed, synonymous of a triple-play (Internet access, IP phone, IP TV) service.

Despite its participation in the NSA wiretapping program, these offers are still a big threat to Vonage, whose yesterday’s public introduction isn’t going ‘that well’.
