Guess what: Apple is on the edge of launching a new toy. The buzz has just started breaking the news. Red Herring and ZDNet have already relayed the buzz four-letters word: VoIP. Soon, most of the MSM (mainstream media) will jump into the Steve Job’s new campaign. Apple will probably add voice chat functionalities to the iPod. That’s the most obvious tactic the Apple CEO can choose, analysts say.
The Apple major product
This mash-up could simply be explained. On one hand, iPod remains the most hype Apple product. The company shopping web store heavily promotes the multimedia player. Added to this, the last version to appear was a video-playing unit, a revamp fresh new iPod is long overdue.
The coolest technology of the decade
On the other hand, wireless technologies are expected to spread every where in the forthcoming years, mainly supported by the voice over the Internet explosion. Microsoft is already preparing such a move into this market, Apple can’t miss this opportunity to stay ahead of the iPod competitors.
For a year, Mr. Jobs has postponed the release of a Apple phone project, VoIP-related or not. Clever delay that could strengthen the next iPod capabilities. “Instead of a phone, maybe in a year Apple could have a VoIP-enabled iPod,” said Current Analysis analyst Chris Crotty to Red Herring magazine.
iPod will allow users to get connected by WiFi on their iTunes account, download songs wherever and whenever they want in a more mobile way. They could also call each other.
