Back to school, work for AOL ― for free. The last episode of “open me your application” series has been led by AOL. In order to truly embrace the Web 2.0 trend, the ISP turned portal will release this fall three APIs for its AIM Phoneline.

The APIs have been developed by Iotum, MyNuMo, an online content community that enables artists to create, show, and sell ringtones. And the last one will be from Mvox Technologies, and will connect wireless MV900 and USB MV100 speakerphones with AIM Phoneline.

Of course, who will gather the biggest, most active, brightest community of developers will win the battle of VoIP instant messengers. That’s simply the trends or said differently the emergence of crowdsourcing that Google, Yahoo, Skype, and AOL have embraced for several months.

According to CNet, AOL claims opening AIM source code was a success that attracted over 50,000 developers worldwide.
