A phone, a router, a hub to make VoIP ubiquitous

We’re never satisfied with one single handset in our homes, aren’t we? Usually, we’ve got at least two ― one in the living room, the other in the bedroom ―, or three if we work at home, four in we’re kids or five if we’re spending time in the kitchen.

American Telecom introduces its E6501/E6502 cordless phone which integrates a router and a SIP platform in the charging base. Its big advantage: Up to 5 locations in the home could link to the master phone. The E6501 will serve as the hub of the other four E6502.

The phones are based on the DECT technologies, an awkward ’something’ that not many Americans know, but is quite big in Europe. It would be interesting to watch the expansion in North America. If households adopt the technologies, there’s slightly a big chance that broadband telephony would become mainstream and even considered as a (new) traditional phone line.
